Billing guide
The fine print, in plain words.
How builds, hosting, add-ons and changes are billed, with worked examples. For the price list, see pricing.
How billing works
Builds are one-time
- Site clone. If you already have a website, we clone it with minor improvements and security hardening. One fee covers all of your existing pages: $499 for Small and Medium sites (up to 30 pages), $999 for Large (31 to 100) and $1,999 for Extra large (101 or more). Up to 2 hours of changes beyond the clone are included. Work past that is billed as time and materials.
- New site, from $299. If you don't have a website yet, $299 covers the core build: setup, staging and the first 5 pages on Basic or 10 on Growth. The rest of the work, such as writing your content, is billed as time and materials.
- New page design, $140 each. Any page we design that doesn't exist yet: on a new site beyond its first pages, or added to a site we've cloned. Pages carried over in a clone never get this charge.
Time and materials
- Updates and other work are $70 an hour, billed in half-hour increments.
- On Growth, the rate is 15% off: $59.50 an hour.
- There's no separate small-updates plan. Every change is billed at the time and materials rate.
Hosting is monthly
- Basic, $55 a month: a Small site (up to 10 pages) and 10 GB of bandwidth a month. Basic doesn't include contact forms, analytics, the Secure Transfer Portal add-on or geo-redundancy.
- Growth, $89 a month: a Small site (up to 10 pages), email contact forms available (see add-ons), 30 GB of bandwidth a month, and analytics and embedded statistics, which are only offered on Growth.
- Google Ads on Growth: startup is included, which means account creation and basic configuration. All campaign work is billed as time and materials.
Site size
- Larger sites cost more to store, back up, monitor and keep up, so hosting steps up by size instead of by page. Both plans include a Small site.
- Small, up to 10 pages and 1 GB of storage: included.
- Medium, 11 to 30 pages and 2 GB: $20 a month more.
- Large, 31 to 100 pages and 5 GB: $45 a month more.
- Extra large, 101 pages or more and 10 GB: $85 a month more. Beyond 10 GB, we'll quote it.
- Counting pages: a blog counts as 2 pages in total, the blog listing page and the post template, no matter how many posts it has. Posts never change your size tier.
- Page count is a stand-in for how much a site takes to host. A site whose files and media outgrow its tier's storage moves up a tier.
Monthly add-ons
- Email contact forms (Growth only): each form is built as time and materials at the Growth rate ($59.50 an hour), then costs $2 a month per form.
- Secure Transfer Portal add-on (Growth only): $75 a month, billed as its own line on your bill. It gives your staff a secure sign-in to view encrypted form submissions and uploads.
- Bandwidth: $5 a month for each extra 10 GB a month.
- Overages: limits are only enforced if we see extreme usage. In that case, overage charges may apply at $1 per GB.
Geo-redundancy (Growth only)
- $35 a month adds a second hosting site, with DNS health-checked failover to it.
- Because the second site carries your whole site too, your size tier and the form and bandwidth add-ons add 50% of their monthly price to the redundancy cost. The Secure Transfer Portal add-on doesn't count toward it. For example, a Medium site costs $20 + $10, and one form costs $2 + $1.
- One-time build fees aren't included in that 50%.
Price estimate
The estimate calculator needs JavaScript. The worked examples below explain how pricing adds up.
Worked examples
Cloning a 7-page site on Basic
7 pages is a Small site, which both plans include. The $499 clone covers every existing page, so there are no per-page build charges.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Site clone, Small site (one-time) | $499 |
| Basic hosting (Small site included) | $55/month |
| Monthly total | $55/month |
A 22-page site with a blog on Growth, 4 forms and the Secure Transfer Portal add-on
22 pages plus the blog (2 pages, however many posts) is 24 pages, a Medium site. The clone is still $499, because Medium sites clone at the same price as Small ones.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Site clone, Medium site (one-time) | $499 |
| Growth hosting | $89/month |
| Medium site size | $20/month |
| 4 forms (4 × $2) | $8/month |
| Secure Transfer Portal add-on | $75/month |
| Monthly total | $192/month |
A 150-page site on Growth with 2 forms
150 pages is an Extra large site. One $1,999 clone fee covers all 150 existing pages. If you also want 3 brand-new pages designed, those are 3 × $140 = $420 on top.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Site clone, Extra large site (one-time) | $1,999 |
| 3 new page designs (one-time, 3 × $140) | $420 |
| Growth hosting | $89/month |
| Extra large site size | $85/month |
| 2 forms (2 × $2) | $4/month |
| Monthly total | $178/month |
A Medium Growth site with geo-redundancy and 2 forms
The second site carries your whole site, so the size tier and each form also add 50% of their price to the redundancy cost.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Growth hosting | $89/month |
| Medium site size | $20/month |
| 2 forms (2 × $2) | $4/month |
| Geo-redundancy | $35/month |
| Redundancy share of size and forms (50% of $24) | $12/month |
| Monthly total | $160/month |
A small change on Basic
A 20-minute fix is billed as one half-hour.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| 0.5 hours at $70/hour | $35 |
| Total | $35 |
The same change on Growth
Growth gets 15% off time and materials.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| 0.5 hours at $59.50/hour | $29.75 |
| Total | $29.75 |
A Basic site that needs more bandwidth
A Basic site that uses 20 GB a month adds one bandwidth block.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Basic hosting (10 GB included) | $55/month |
| 10 GB more bandwidth | $5/month |
| Monthly total | $60/month |
Prices are subject to change.
